How to go to Hua Hin from Bangkok using public transport

HuaHin is a beach side attraction in the southern Thailand. HuaHin is in Prachuap Khiri Khan province of Thailand. It used to be a summer vacation destination for Thai Royal Family. I felt HuaHin is calm and relaxed, very good weekend destination for family trips. HuaHin is located at a distance of ~200 km from Bangkok. And one can go to Hua Hin easily using either personal transportation or public transport.

How to go to HuaHin from Bangkok

There are many options from Bangkok city. Some services will be there directly from Suvarnabhumi airport or Don Mueng airport to HuaHin. From Bangkok, You can go by Bus, Train, mini Van or your own car/motor bike.

Train:- There will be trains from Hualampong Railway station. So one can go to Hua His by train. Okay, you may ask me how to go to Hualamphong railway station using public transport? Easiest way to go to Hualamphong Railway station is using MRT. Go to the end station on MRT Hualamphong. From there it is 5-10 mins. I would advise you to to pre book the ticket from Hualamphong to HuaHin. Thai trains have different type of seating like first, second,.etc.. Going to HuaHin on train would definitely be a different experience for you, If you have a lot of time.

Pros: Cost effective, relaxed, safer and for a different experience Cons: slower, needs prior ticket booking

Bus/mini van:- As HuaHin is located on southern Thailand, There will be more buses starting from Sai Tai Mai (Southern Bus Terminal, Bangkok) to HuaHin every hour. Bus fares starting from 170 THB. And the journey would be between 3-4 hrs based on traffic. The buses from Sai Tai Mai go to HuaHin Bus station. Mini vans are also start from Sai Tai Mai.

Bus - Pros: Starts on time, can carry more luggage. Mini van cannot accommodate big bags.

How to go to Sai Tai Mai using public transport

You don’t believe Bangkok’s public transport is a very good service. The connectivity is very good.

Okay, on BTS sukhumvit line get down at Victory monument station and go towards the Victory Monument on the foot bridge and get down on your left hand side. There will be a hospital (Institute of Cardiovascular diseases) on your left hand side. You can see the buses when you are on the bridge. The bus stop is beneath the bridge. There will be many buses going to Sai Tai Mai. The journey to the Sai Tai Mai from Victory Monument will be around 40 mins - 1 hr based on traffic.

Choose between Bus and Mini Van

So once you get down at Sai Tai Mai you can see some big shopping complex called SC Plaza. It confuses you is it a shopping complex or a Bus station. Bus station is back side of SC plaza. Mini vans also start from here its up to you, mini vans are faster than Bus and fare is also a bit less than Buses. But you have to wait till the minivan gets filled. Buses will not wait for any one, will start on hourly basis. If you want to go on bus you can go inside and buy the ticket at counter. Don’t worry there will be counters with english names or Bus driver shouts as and when he sees some passengers. Bus fare from Bangkok to Hua Hin is 170 THB.
